While on the one hand claiming to want peace in Yemen, successive Canadian governments have, at the same time, supported the Saudi/UAE side of the war in Yemen. After seven years of war resulting in nearly 400,000 deaths and leaving millions on the brink of famine, Yemen is at long last in the midst of the longest (yet still tentative) cease fire. As all parties take a moment to breathe, in this presentation Fenton will discuss the roots of Canada’s relations with the warring parties, its historic role in/around Yemen and the Arabian Peninsula, and what the Canadian state (and ruling class) have done to fuel or mitigate the war over the last seven years.
