In this video, Inda Intiar with Woven Cultures Tissées speaks with artist Futong Kang, originally from Beijing, China.

Kang studied Fine Arts and Design in China and taught art for years at a school in her home country.

Although she has worked in many mediums, Kang’s most recent artwork, a series of black and white drawings titled “Linescape” is heavily influenced by Japanese Manga. As she explores the local landscape, she takes pictures and draws images based on these pictures.

Kang arrived in North America at the age of 26. She brings art into her community work, started when she arrived in Canada.

Kang encourages newcomers to “take the first step” to get to know Canadians better.

Follow Futong Kang on Instagram or visit her website.

Sophie M. Lavoie is a NB Media Co-op editorial board member and writes on arts and culture.

The NB Media Co-op will be showcasing more of the Young Artists Spotlight videos by Woven Cultures Tissées.
