More than 50 people gathered in front of the New Brunswick Legislature on March 31st to protest the abolishment of the New Brunswick Advisory Council on the Status of Women. More gathered in the gallery of the Legislature later that afternoon to hear a Liberal motion to reinstate the Council. The motion was defeated by the Conservatives.
In Moncton, women’s groups released a statement signed by 45 organizations asking the Alward government to reverse his decision to abolish the Advisory Council. On Wednesday, March 30, more than 200 supporters of the Advisory Council gathered at Moncton City Hall to protest the decision.
The NB RebELLEs in Fredericton are organizing a photo protest where women are putting tape over their mouths with Alward written on it and posting it to Facebook.
