The pride flag was raised at Fredericton City Hall today, August 6, 2010. In attendance for the flag raising ceremony was Mayor Brad Woodside.
In 1998, the Fredericton Mayor was ordered by the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission to make the Pride Week proclamation. Woodside complied and read the proclamation, but only after shutting off his microphone. Prior to the inaudible proclamation, Mayor Woodside refused to make the proclamation saying he felt the majority of his constituents did not support it.
Pride Week is celebrated around the world at different times. Pride festivities bring together members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community, and their friends, allies and supporters in celebration of the uniqueness of the LGBT community.
