Malalai Joya, known as the bravest woman in Afghanistan, is on a book tour across Canada promoting her memoir, A Woman Among Warlords. As an elected member of Parliament from Farah province, she has publicly denounced warlords and druglords in the parliament and as a result has been suspended from the Afghan parliament.
Her suspension, currently under appeal, has been protested internationally. Numerous high profile writers, intellectuals and politicians are calling for her reinstatement. She is a vocal critic of the NATO war and occupation of Afghanistan. She lives in constant danger and has survived five assassination attempts.
